Tom Ford is one of the hottest designers around right now. His line includes beauty products, Menswear, shoes, Women’s and Men’s accessories, fragrances, eyeglasses and of course sunglasses. He’s been a designer for Cathy Hardwick, Perry Ellis, Marc Jacobs and of course Gucci. Tom preferred the more stylish European attitude toward design than the more staid American fashion designs so he moved to Europe and started designing for Gucci in 1990.
His sunglasses lines are bold and sassy. They oversized, curvy, wiggly, active and colorful. Each has been blessed with it’s own moniker such as Tatiana, Whitney, Dakota, Hunter, etc. Sounds like daytime drama characters!
Tom Ford products always includes a combo of cutting edge innovative design as well as the latest technology. His sunglasses designs are eye-catching and considered the brand to wear by many of today’s young actresses. If you see a young woman in the Los Angeles area with an entourage and wearing oversized shades-they’re probably Tom Fords.
Wanna be “in with the in crowd” and a sunglasses fashionista? Slide on a pair of Tom Fords and have fun dodging the paparazzi.
Almost everyone owns a pair of sunglasses weather they be super cheap or mid-range or upscale designer shades. It’s interesting to wonder about the origin of sunglasses. Who is recorded as one of the first people to try and shield their eyes from the sun using a see-through material? How did the making of glasses and sunglasses progress through time?
Here’s a very short condensed history of glasses and sunglasses, just little info bits that give a general outline of known developments:
Roman Emperor Nero held polished emerald green gems up to his eyes to watch gladiator competitions. It’s believed the invention of sunglasses was somewhere between 1268 and 1289.
Around the twelfth century and before 1430, sunglasses were worn by Judges in the Courts of China. The smoky quartz, flat-glassed panes were not used as protection from the sun. They were used to conceal any expression in their eyes to keep from giving away the outcome of their decisions. Prescription sunglasses were developed in Italy in 1430 and were later used by the Chinese Judges.
By the 1600’s people began to realize the benefits of prescription glasses as helping the elderly to see better and the motto “A Blessing to the Aged” came into being in 1629. In the mid 18th Century, James Ayscough developed blue and green corrective lenses which began the use of sunglasses for correcting optical impairments. Continue reading Short History of Sunglasses
Everyone has a different shaped head and face from everyone else. Our head size is also different from others. When choosing eyeglasses or sunglasses it’s helpful to know which eyeglass size will fit you best. Here’s Dr. Dhavid Cooper explaining how to choose the right sized glasses for you.
Maintaining great eye health will benefit your entire body. Often when there is something wrong with our bodies, an eye examination will reveal it. Healthy adults should get their eyes examined every 2 years. If you have diabetes or high blood pressure it’s recommended that you visit your eye doctor yearly.
For example, if you have diabetes and you experience unexplained blurriness it could be a sign your blood sugar level is too high. Be aware though, that simply rubbing your eyes can cause blurry vision. Sometimes during a high pollen day, my eyes get dry which causes itchiness. If I rub my eyes I notice they get blurry afterwards. Same affect if you lay on your side and your eyes touch your pillow, any touching of the eyes can cause blurriness.

I wear reading glasses. Fortunately, I only have to wear a 1.00 to 1.25 rated reading glasses. But many people have no clue how strong a pair of reading glasses they need.
Here’s a nifty quick chart that will show you which strength of reading glasses you need at this time. Rated from 1.25 to 4.00 you’ll be able to view it on screen or as they suggest print the chart out and read the lines. The first line you can’t read is the lens strength you’ll need. Also, don’t wear your current reading glasses when you take this particular test.

Those of you in the Philadelphia area will be pleased to know that the Eagles started a free program approximately 14 yrs ago to help children who can’t afford glasses. They sponsor a mobile eye examination unit called “Eagles Eye Mobile” and features stadium seats
Children are examined by a nurse and kids with vision problems are sent to the mobile unit for an exam and free eyeglasses!
When the glasses are ready they’re sent to the child in care of the school.
It’s Back to School time for most areas in the United States. If your child has recently been diagnosed with nearsightednes, farsightedness or astigmatism by their optometrist they’ll be needing new lenses and frames.
All kinds of things need to be considered-your child’s reluctance to suddenly having to wear eyeglasses, being teased in school, getting used to the new glasses, what type of glasses are best for your child, where and how to buy them, etc.
Maria Dellapina is a single mother of a special child “Erin” who has Down’s Syndrome and vision problems. Maria is also an optician for over 20 years and decided that the eyeglasses Erin had were inadequate. The glasses would slip down her face and Erin would even hide them from her mother.
Maria decided to create an eyeglass frame that fits the needs of handicapped kids who sometimes have uniquely shaped heads and faces. It was a market just waiting to be catered to. Parents can now give their special children eyeglasses that fit, make them beautiful and motivate them to read. Continue reading Handicapped Kids Can Now Have Good Fitting Glasses
